The Galveston and Texas History Center collects, preserves and organizes archival materials that document the history of Galveston and Texas. We focus on Galveston from the city’s incorporation in 1839 through the present. Our collection also relates to Texas from the Spanish period to the end of the Civil War.

The Museum maintains and exhibits an artifact collection and a fine art collection that emphasize the history of Galveston and the Republic of Texas. Permanent and alternating exhibits are displayed in the Lykes, Hutchings, and Harris Galleries on the third floor, and throughout the building.
